  • The mother of a 13-year-old girl is suing a Florida school for detaining her for 11 days.

  • The girl was accused of making violent threats, but police now say she was framed.

  • The girl's mother says authorities could have investigated more quickly.

The mother of a 13-year-old girl who was wrongly arrested and spent 11 days in a juvenile detention center after a friend impersonated her on social media is suing the school and the photo-sharing website.

The girl, who was accused of being impersonated by a student at the school, has been cleared of all charges. The 12-year-old used her personal information to create an email address, open multiple accounts, and send herself and other students threatening messages, according to the police department.

The lawsuit said that the 12-year-old used fake accounts to make threats to blow up the school and kill teachers and students. Police said that M.S. lied to law enforcement and school staff about the threats.

In her lawsuit, Lezlie-Ann Davis alleged that her daughter's school failed to investigate multiple instances of her being bullied, the police department failed to investigate whether the accounts really belonged to her, and thatInstagram failed to cooperate.

A lawyer for Davis and Nia did not respond to the request for comment. Representatives from the photo-sharing website did not respond to Insider's request for comment.

The Renaissance Charter School at Pines' highest priority remains the safety and security of its students, despite the school's refusal to answer questions due to pending litigation. We always take appropriate actions to make sure our students and staff are safe.

The lawsuit claims that determining whether or not she had actually sent the messages could have been done quickly.

The lawsuit said that the unique and singular internet fingerprints known as the "ip address" is easily determined by any professional investigator.

The lawsuit said that, similarly, Instagram had the tools to investigate the account's origins, but did not cooperate in a timely fashion.

The lawsuit alleged that the conduct of the school, police department, and social media caused a 13-year-old girl to be taken from her home by the police and placed in a juvenile facility for eleven days.

The lawsuit stated that the experience was the cause of severe mental distress, pain and anguish which is severe and ongoing, and has manifest itself in the daily life of the young woman.

In a February 15 interview with ABC News, Nia said she felt lost about the situation.
