Zion could need a second surgery on his foot.
According to Christian Clark of NOLA.com, a second surgery to alleviate his ongoing pain is a possibility, as he began feeling sore in his foot when he started working out in December.
The 21-year-old has missed the entire 2021-22 season with a fractured right foot.
He said that Williamson had surgery to repair a broken foot.
He had a fractured right foot that was repaired, and he should be back on the court in time for the regular season. That is our hope and our view. We are very optimistic about what that looks like.
In October, he stated that he wouldn't be ready for the regular season. According to Christian Clark of NOLA.com, there was no fixed timetable for his return.
The statement regarding his progress was released by the Pelicans.
Following a consultation and further evaluation with Dr. Richard Ferkel of the Southern California Orthopedic Institute yesterday, Zion Williamson received a biologic injection into the fracture site to stimulate bone healing in his right foot.
Williamson will be limited to low impact, partial weight-bearing activities. Further updates will be given after further scans which are expected to occur in 3-6 weeks.
An update was provided by Griffin on January 5.
Since we notified everyone on December 16 of his latest image, it was decided by our medical team to dial his rehab back to only partial weight bearing activities. He goes along that path. We agreed that in order to put Zion in the best position to succeed, he will have to take a break from the team at this time so he can focus on the task at hand.
The statement was released through the team.
This has been a very difficult process for me. I know there is work to be done in my recovery before I can safely return to the court, but I will continue to put in the time necessary so I can get back on the floor with my team and represent the city of New Orleans at the highest level. Basketball means everything to me, and I am thankful for the organization, my family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, fans, and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey.
In 2020-21, the Pels had a player who averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebound and 3.7 assists per game. He earned his first-ever All-Star Game appearance, shooting 61.1 percent from the field.
The New Orleans chose him with the top pick in the NBA draft. He was limited to just 24 games in his first season after tearing his right knee in the preseason. He averaged 22.5 points in 27.8 minutes per game.
The Pels missed out on the play-in tournament in 2020-21. The team is sitting 11th in the Western Conference with a 23-35 record this year.
The hope is that Williamson will return to full health as soon as possible.
