Halo's Trailer Bring Master Chief's Sci-fi Odyssey to Live Action

Master Chief (Pablo Schreiber) and the Spartans of Silver Team in Paramount's Halo.

Microsoft has been trying for a long time to get Bungie and 343 to make live action games. After several aborted attempts at making a movie, Halo is now finally a TV show for Paramount+ that winds back to the days when Master Chief's life and the Human/Covenant War was simpler.

One of the interesting things about the show is that it isn't the same continuity as the gaming franchise. Master Chief will have a new team of Spartans by his side instead of the Blue Team members Linda, Fred. The members of Silver Team are said to exist in the main continuity as well. The show will be different in subtle and not-subtle ways, such as Chief and Cortana, which will make them known over time, like in the games.

There are a lot of interesting things that can be gleaned from the trailer, from a human woman allying herself with the Covenant to the appearance of the Spartan Soren-066. The Insurrection is still around and kicking the same time as the Covenant is, which may make for a more interesting show and a deeper look at Chief as a person.

What remains to be seen with the overall franchise is what it can give beyond just being a reinterpretation of events millions of players have experienced since they were kids. Each game has brought something new to the table that has enchanted and excited fans for a long time. This new show could either be a legend in its own right or need to go back, given how much of a journey it has been for this show to see release.

March 24 is the premiere of Halo.

There is an update at 5:01 p.m. The post has been updated with more information about the lore of the show.
