Sunderland sack head coach Lee Johnson following 6-0 defeat by Bolton in League One

The head coach of the team, Lee Johnson, was sacked after the 6-0 defeat by the Trotters in League One.

Following Saturday's heavy defeat, Johnson and assistant Jamie McAllister leave. The Black Cats have one win in five games.

The announcement of their interim coaching set-up will be communicated shortly, and they have begun their search for a replacement.

Over the past 14 months, I would like to thank Lee for his commitment and effort. We regret that we had to make this decision, but felt that change was needed immediately.

We believe that this is in the best interests of the club as we strive to get promoted this season. Lee and Jamie will always be welcome at the Stadium of Light and they leave with our best wishes.
