According to reports, the Las Vegas Raiders are going to hire the director of player personnel from the New England Pats as their next general manager.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the Raiders are expected to move quickly in their attempt to land Josh McDaniels as their next head coach.

Mike Mayock was fired after three years with the organization.

Mayock's departure is part of an organizational shift following the departure of head coach Jon Gruden, who resigned after racist, sexist and anti-gay emails he sent while employed at ESPN were leaked to the press.

Mayock previously worked as a draft analyst at the NFL Network. Mayock had no previous front-office experience but worked in concert with the final say over all personnel calls.

The last nine seasons have been with the New England. He was the defacto general manager next to Bill Belichick in the 2021 season, helping spark New England's quick turn around after missing the playoffs in 2020.

The team went 10-7 in the regular season but lost in the playoffs to the Cincinnati Bengals. The bones of a strong roster are in place despite the questionable roster decisions made under Mayock. The Raiders have a projected $21.4 million in cap space next season.

Getting a deal done for Carr is likely to be the first order of business, since he is only under contract through next season.

In the past few years, the New England offensive coach has been a candidate for several head-coaching jobs, but he has decided not to take the job after two bad years with the Denver Broncos. It's likely his comfort level with the long-time employee that will be the biggest factor in him leaving Bill Belichick.
