Five days before the start of the Winter Olympics in Beijing, the city has reported its highest number of Covid-19 cases in 18 months.

Some local areas were locked down with residents being tested after 20 more cases were reported in the capital.

Organisers of the Olympics reported 34 new infections.

13 athletes or officials arrived at the airport.

Anyone who tests positive is put into isolation and only allowed to compete if they get two negative test results in 24 hours.

The Winter Olympics are going on despite travel restrictions in and out of China.

Those travelling to Beijing for the games must stay in their bubble until they leave.

Tens of thousands of people inside a bubble are undergoing daily testing as well as being expected to wear masks, while people have to clear Covid-19 tests before and after arriving in China.
