It looks like Rodgers will return to the Packers in 2022.

Rodgers remained in Green Bay after the Packers lost to the San Francisco 49ers, according to Ian Rapoport. The front office and coaching staff left those meetings withcautious optimism that Rodgers will return.

With the possibility of retirement and forcing a trade out of Green Bay, the reigning NFL Most Valuable Player has been non-committal about his future in football. Tensions that nearly led to Rodgers leaving the Packers last summer have dissipated.

I feel like I am in a really good place with the Packers, especially with Brian and the way our friendship and trust has grown, where it would be a simple conversation and whatever comes out of the conversation. When it is time to make a decision, Brian and I will have a conversation and that will be that. It will not be a long, drawn-out process.

The March 8 franchise-tag deadline is when Rodgers will make a decision about his future. Davante Adams is set to be a free agent this summer, and it is almost certain that the Packers will use their tag to keep him from hitting the open market. Rodgers announcing his retirement or asking for a trade could change those plans.

If Rodgers decided to leave, Green Bay would have a lot of options. The Denver Broncos hired Nathaniel Hackett as their head coach and he is a quarterback away from the Super Bowl. According to a report from Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to replace Ben Roethlisberger, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be doing the same with Tom Brady.

The Packers will have to get creative with their accounting if Rodgers returns. Green Bay is projected to be over the cap by $46.4 million.
