The World Boxing Council cruiserweight world title was retained by Ilunga Makabu.

The South African was fighting for the second time after being stopped by Makabu in 2015.

The judges in Warren, Ohio scored the bout 115-113 and 116- 112 for Makabu and Mchunu, and the third judge saw it 115-113 for Mchunu.

Makabu said his next fight would be against Canelo.

He said he was going to box and knock Saul out.

Makabu said he would be fighting the boxing superstar in the ring in May.

A two-division leap for the undisputed super-middleweight champion, who has won world titles in four weight classes, would be the result of their match-up.

There are a lot of options, including the WBA light-heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.
