Donald Trump called on his followers to stage protests in multiple cities if prosecutors try to prosecute him. He said he would offer pardons to those who were charged in the assault on the Capitol.

If these prosecutors do anything wrong or illegal, I hope we have the biggest protests we have ever had in this country.

He claimed that his followers who attacked the Capitol building were not being treated fairly and that if he ran for the White House again, he would win.

The performance was notable for the many references to the various investigations into him.

He said that the prosecutors were trying to put him in jail. They are racists and they are very sick. They are mentally sick. They are going after me without any protection of my rights.

The district attorney in Manhattan has been conducting a criminal investigation while the New York State Attorney General has been conducting a civil investigation.

The district attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, has impaneled a special grand jury to look into Trump's attempt to force state officials to vote for him.

The Department of Justice confirmed this past week that it is investigating at least one element of Trump's scheme, while the House January 6 select committee has been subpoenaing more and more former and current Trump aides to determine his precise role in that day.

The fraudulent slates were pushed by the Trump White House and campaign advisers in order to give Vice President Mike Pence the ability to cite the competing slates as a reason to award Trump a second term.

The false elector scheme was sabotaged by crafting new language to make sure the fake slates were excluded.

One year ago, Trump refused to give up power peacefully to his successor. He spent a lot of time attacking the legitimacy of the November 2020 contest. After the polls closed, Trump stated that he had won in a landslide and that his victory was being taken from him. There were a number of failed lawsuits challenging the results in a few states.

After the Electoral College voted on Dec. 14, Trump turned to a last-ditch scheme to pressure his own vice president into handing the election to him.

When Trump asked his followers to come to Washington, he told them to march to the Capitol to intimidate the Vice President.

When the vice president did not do Trump's bidding, the mob of supporters went to the building and shouted "Hang Mike Pence". The riot left five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer, and four other officers took their own lives.

Even though the House impeached Trump for inciting the attack, all but seven Senate Republicans, led by McConnell, chose not to convict him.
