The airports in the Northeast ground to a virtual standstill, with most of the flights canceled at New York's LaGuardia.

American Airlines and Delta were the airlines that canceled the most flights during the snowstorm.

There are about 1,000 canceled flights in the U.S. Delta has issued a travel waiver for passengers impacted by the snow storm.

55 million Americans are under winter weather advisories because of the powerful winter storm that is hitting the East Coast. There could be record-breaking amounts of snow in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The previous record for snow in Boston was 28.6 inches in 2003 and the NWS predicts up to 30 inches. Connecticut and Rhode Island are expected to get between 8 and 24 inches of snow.
