The reported retirement of Tom Brady is causing a lot of confusion.

Brady will retire after 22 years in the NFL.

Brady's agent, Don Yee, issued a statement saying that Brady will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy at some point.

In a text to Albert Breer, Bruce Arians said he had not heard from Brady.

Michael Silver reported for Bally Sports that Brady contacted the general manager of the Buccaneers to let him know he had yet to make a decision about his future.

Licht is respecting Brady's process and waiting for a definitive answer whenever it comes from the quarterback.

The team won the Super Bowl in Brady's first season. They won the South title for the first time in eight years, but lost in the playoffs for the first time since 2007, falling to the Los Angeles Rams 30-27.

Ian Rapoport reported the talk of Brady potentially retiring was an issue to be concerned about prior to the game.

Brady said his family was going to have a big role in whatever decision he made.

"I said this a few years ago, it's what relationships are all about. It's not always what I want. It's what we want as a family. And I'm gonna spend a lot of time with them and figure out in the future what's next.
"It pains her to see me get hit out there. And she deserves what she needs from me as a husband, and my kids deserve what they need from me as a dad."

The status of Brady for the year 2022, which is the most important year in the history of the league, has huge ramifications. He had one of the best seasons of his career last year. During the regular season, the 44-year-old led the league in completions, attempts and passing yards.

Brady has only missed the playoffs once as a starting quarterback, when he played an entire season in 2002. Brady tore his knee in Week 1 of the playoffs.

The Brady teams have played in five of the seven Super Bowls. They won four titles.

The franchise hadn't won a playoff game since 2003 and hadn't made the playoffs since 2007.
