Joni Mitchell joins Neil Young in having her music pulled off Spotify

The Big Yellow Taxi that Mitchell is riding is far away from the streaming service.

Since the 60s, the famed Canadian singer-songwriter who has been turning out hits like "The Circle Game" has joined Neil Young in calling for her music. Mitchell is fed up with the willingness of Spotify to support people like Joe Rogan who perpetuate lies and incomplete truths.

Rogan's show has been around since 2009, but it became an exclusive on the streaming service in December of 2020. The recent pushback against Spotify was centered on the controversial actor-turned-influential blowhard.

Mitchell wrote under the headline "I Stand With Neil Young!" on her website that she had decided to remove her music from the streaming service. I support Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.

While she doesn't single out Rogan by name, the post does conclude with a link to an open letter, which is signed by a coalition of scientists, medical professionals, professors, and science communicators.

In an open letter posted on January 26th, Young asked that his music be removed from the service. He wrote at the time that it was possible to have Rogan or Young on the service. All of Young's solo albums are missing from his artist page because the streaming giant chose the former. All but four of Mitchell's albums were released under the Geffen Records, but the bulk of his catalog is missing as of Saturday afternoon.

Many of Mitchell's most famous works, including the albums featuring hits like "Big Yellow Taxi" and "The Circle Game", are not available on the streaming service.

The most high-profile step taken by an artist was Young's demand to have his music scrubbed from the service. The system seems to be overloading, as people are canceling their subscriptions in such large numbers that the market value of the company has been wiped out. It seems like this issue is not going to disappear overnight.
