Brady's health company appeared to confirm his retirement in a statement thanking him for his work.

According to people familiar with Brady's decision, he made it out of consideration for his family and his health, along with the heavy changes expected on the roster next season.

According to people close to Brady, he knew it was likely his last game as a professional football player when the Buccaneers lost to the Rams.

Brady will retire in the coming days or weeks, as he doesn't want to distract from the remaining playoff games and the Super Bowl.
