Grant Gustin will return as the Arrowverse's Scarlet Speedster for at least one more year after his contract was finalized. The ninth season could be the shortest yet, as his new contract extends to 15 episodes. A multi-year contract was on the table, but Gustin turned it down. Arrow ended its eight season tenure in 2020 but The Flash is still the longest running Arrowverse series.
It may be the last season for the series, since the CW may end up being a thing of the past. The show did the impossible and survived being eliminated just before the movie about Barry Allen was released. Back when Arrow was on, it had a version of the Suicide Squad that was mostly scuttled to clear the way for the cinematic version after doing a good job of establishing them.
It will be interesting to see how the series ends if it is the last one. As it is, they have already touched on every part of the character'sthos, from the various Forces of recent comics runs to the character's family. We will have to wait and see what the future holds for the CW's golden child as new episodes start on March 9.
The deadline is Deadline.
