Auburn Tigers extend men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl 'for life'

Bruce Pearl has agreed to a new eight-year contract that will keep him at the helm of the Plains.

The deal is worth over $5 million per year and has an escalator. The total value of the deal is $50.2 million and it will max out at $7.15 million during the 2029-30 season.

In a video with Pearl that was posted to social media on Friday night, Greene said that they locked him up.

Pearl said the new deal was easy to agree on.

Pearl said in the video that he and his family will be able to stay and be your basketball coach for a long time. I am blessed to be your coach.

This week was the first time in the history of the program that it had secured the No. 1 ranking. The team has a 16-game win streak and 19-1 record. The Tigers made their first Final Four in 2019.

The NCAA tournament was canceled in 2020 because of COVID-19, but the Tigers made back-to-back appearances.

Pearl said in a statement Saturday that he intended to have enough success for this to be his last job. I would like to thank my players, coaches and support staff. Our family will always be in auburn. I am honored to be your head coach for a long time. The war eagle!

Even with a 13-14 record last season, auburn is 113-39 over the past four-plus seasons.

The Tigers were placed on four years of NCAA sanctions for NCAA violations involving former assistant coach Chuck Person. Pearl was suspended for two games for failing to monitor.

The NCAA charged Pearl with unethical conduct after he was fired from Tennessee. He took over a program that hadn't been to the NCAA tournament in over a decade.
