Adama Traore is on loan from Wolves to Barcelona.
Traore was unconvinced by the interest of Spurs, so Barcelona agreed a loan move with an option to make the deal permanent.
FC Barcelona and Wolves have reached an agreement for the loan of the player Adama Traore until June 30, 2022. There is an option to make the deal permanent, as the blaugranes will pay the player's wages.
The presentation of Adama Traore as a new FC Barcelona player will be behind closed doors. The club will make a further announcement soon.
Adama has always acted with the utmost professionalism, however it is no secret that we have not been able to agree a new contract with him, despite lengthy negotiations.
Everyone knows Barcelona is a city and club that is very close to Adama's heart, so it is a dream move for him. Should Barcelona decide to make the move permanent this summer, we have agreed a very healthy option in the deal.
We wish Adama the best of luck in Spain, and hope that he plays regularly, has great success, and shows everyone what he is capable of.
Sky Sports News reported earlier this week that Spurs were closing in on a 20 million pound deal for Traore, but he was not interested in the club.
He was a long-time target of Spurs, who were in talks to sign Traore at the end of the summer transfer window. The change of head coach from Nuno Espirito Santo to Antonio Conte did not deter that interest.
Sky Sports has an analysis by Adam Bate.
It was thought that the deal for Adama Traore was all but done and that the club would add further signings as well. They have a problem if they fail to land the Spain international.
The wing-back position was identified to bring more motivation to the position where Royal has not been able to beat a man. Traore's ball-carrying ability would have added a new element to the game.
It is being said that he never fancied the position. Bruno Lage only used Traore in desperation when trailing both Crystal Palace and Brentford, and last had a run at wing-back under Nuno Espirito Santo.
It's possible that the interest from Barcelona changed his mind. Catalonia has always been home to Traore, even after six-and-a-half years in England. He joined the youth set-up at eight years old and made his La Liga debut at 17.
The chance to return as an international player in his prime and ready to make an impact under his one-time team-mate is an opportunity that he will have wanted. He looks like he will get that chance. The search continues for Spurs.
The clock is not running. The transfer window closes at 11pm on January 31.
