The White House said on Friday that households in the US placed 60 million orders for Covid tests through the government website launched last week.
Some households have already received the tests, which come in sets of four, according to the White House deputy press secretary.
Jean-Pierre did not say how many tests the administration has on hand, despite the Biden administration's pledge to purchase 1 billion tests.
The administration launched a website on January 18 to order the tests.
President Joe Biden doubled the purchase of Covid-19 tests in January, after criticism that his administration had not done enough to ease testing shortages caused by the rapid spread of the omicron variant. Some apartment building residents had trouble placing orders on the website, which the USPS said was due to an error where some addresses were not listed as multi-residential buildings.
400 million high-quality N95 masks will be given to the public for free by the Biden administration. There is a limit on the number of masks that can be purchased at local pharmacies and community health centers. The mask program is expected to be fully operational by early February according to White House officials.
