We tried $180 Alaskan red king crab legs to see if they’re worth the money—here’s what happened

There is a reason that videos of people eating crab legs rack up millions of views. People love watching and eating the same things.

There are channels dedicated to eating crab of all types.

Some crab legs are better than others.

Snow crab legs are the most common variety, and at $66 for two pounds, they are some of the most affordable. Dungeness crabs cost $60 for 2 pounds and have thicker shells. The golden king crab is the most popular king crab in restaurants and costs about $136 for 2 pounds.

The Alaskan red king crab is the most expensive crab in the world, with a price tag of nearly $180 for 2 pounds.

The head seafood buyer at Crowd Cow says the reason for the higher prices is supply and demand.

There was a moratorium this past year. The red king crab season was closed because of low stock levels. It is kind of the best out there.

The Alaskan red king crab season lasts for just six weeks, from October to the second week of November. The red king crab is caught in the Bering Sea.
