Best Action Games for Android in January 2022

There is a source of the Android Central.

It can be difficult to sort the action games in the Play Store. After hundreds of hours of playing, we have rounded up the best action-packed games that are worth checking out.

You will need to trust us when we say the games are worth the initial investment because many of them are paid apps. It is always good to support those teams that are making great games.

We have the best Android games here.

Ailment is a top-down sci-fi shooter with tons of movie references and horror elements. There are a lot of guns and enemies to kill in the game. It is not the most family-friendly game because it is brutal and graphic. It is a great time.

The campaign has you wake up on a strange ship. You have to kill the crew to get out. There is plenty of humor and references to pop culture and media that will make you laugh. The retro art is great.

In a fight to the death, you can battle friends or strangers. You can earn guns and skins to modify your game.

Ailment

This brutal top-down shooter is a hoot with lots of killing, references, and other stuff to keep you entertained.

This is another ARPG for loot lovers. AnimA pays homage to the franchise of the same name and sets itself apart from the others. And you know what? The game is awesome on its own merits.

The fonts may look familiar, but any fan of the game will appreciate the loop, the dark atmosphere, and all of the enemies to kill. I lost a lot of time in AnimA just to get more loot. It is free to play and comes with microtransactions, but they are not bad.

AnimA

AnimA is an ARPG that features a fun game and a dark storyline. It is perfect for fans of the game. It is also free with minimal transactions.

If you are looking for non-stop action, look no further than Candies. It is a rock solid arcade rogue-lite light on story, heavy on the action, and sometimes brutal with its punishment. Molly is a young girl who dares to enter the haunted mansion in the town. She becomes trapped by the mansion's hordes of zombies.

Molly must use her flashlight to get through the mansion and take out any ghosts that stand in her way if she wants to escape. The fun comes not only from the action itself, but also from the rogue-lite aspects. You are expected to fail a lot and come back with new equipment and charms. The candies and curses can either help or hurt you and they can be expensive.

A new DLC was launched a little while back, and the developer, Takoboy Studios, continues to support the game. Through occassional ads, the free version is great. The ads are not horrible at times. You can pay to get the ad-free version, as well as other in-app purchases for cosmetics or in-game currency.

Candies Curses Icon

Molly will be guided through a mansion filled with ghosts and ghouls. Use your own style and charms to make it out alive.

Dandara was well-received on the PC and console releases. gravity can be used to jump off walls and ceilings

Dandara plays at a much faster pace than other modern Metroidvanias like Dead Cells and Hollow Knight. I found the overall speed of the game to be closer to other platformers like Celeste, even though it lacks the perma-death of Dead Cells.

There are three new areas in this version of the game, as well as another boss, power-ups, and more. I think you will like it. It also has controller support.

Dandara

Dandara is a great game. It has a lot of content and is well worth the time and money.

Dead Cells was released a little while ago and it was worth the wait. The game is one of the best of its kind. It mixes tough, brutal combat that many compare to Dark Souls with a rogue-like to ensure that every death hurts. When you fail, you get back up again from your cell, learn from your mistakes, and try to do better the next time.

If you prefer that route, the port supports controllers. The controls are top-notch, but it is hard to beat an external controller. I highlighted Dead Cells in my Game of the Week series. I absolutely adore this game.

Dead Cells is a steep challenge filled with dangerous enemies, loot, and build diversity. It is one of the best games on the Play Store right now.

Dead Cells

The wait was worth it, as one of the best independent games ever arrived on the platform. The game is hard, but it is enjoyable.

When you are dropping money on a game, you want to make sure it has good replay value. Death Road To Canada is an excellent choice. Facing a zombie apocalypse, you must lead a squad of characters on a mission to save Canada.

Along the way, you will need to explore and loot places for supplies, as well as manage your team's health and morale. Death Road to Canada is an action-RPG that has everything randomly generated.

Death Road to Canada supports controllers, which is always a win for me. You can have more fun with a custom character creator, and you can even meet them in your journey. This game is worth $10 because it has a lot of stuff. There is a lot to say about infinite replayability.

Death Road to Canada

Death Road to Canada has been on our lists of the best games before. It has a lot of replay value and is a good game.

Downwell is a retro-style game where the goal is to jump down the well and see how far you can fall. It's easy, right? The well is filled with enemies. You can shoot down as you go, which helps you float.

What is the story? When all you are looking for is action is a story? This is a game that is easy to jump into but hard to master, thanks to the cool graphics, excellent music, and simple controls. Each time you play, there is a new weapon upgrade. You can choose an additional power-up at the end of each stage.

Downwell

Downwell is a game. As you enjoy the retro styling, see how far you can go.

Genshin Impact is an open-world action-adventure title that has become a surprise hit. The game is gorgeous, the story is engaging, and it takes a lot of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You will see why it is easy to lose hours in Genshin Impact if you try it out.

The biggest weakness of the game is the monetization. It is free to play on mobile, PC, and PS4 (with cross-save between PC and mobile), but with that comes hefty in-app purchases and an abrupt stop when it comes to the endgame grind. It can be frustrating, but you will deal with it.

I like Genshin Impact a lot. The gacha mechanics for new characters and weapons are not bad, and the game itself is good enough that you might feel good will toward the developer. If you don't pay anything, get ready for a long grind.

Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact is a gacha open-world action-adventure game that takes a lot of inspiration from Breath of the Wild. It is a great game despite some concerns with the monetization model.

Grimvalor is a side-scroller that features tight controls, excellent movement abilities, and pretty graphics. This was my go-to whenever I had time to myself.

You need to level your character by being tactical about how you approach enemies. There are lots to explore, with secrets hidden throughout the map. The world wants to see you fail, but it also wants you to fight on. It is up to your skill to see yourself through when the odds are against you.

After you get the first act for free, you have to pay $7 for the full game. This tactic allows you to experience the game as it is and then you have the choice to continue. If you like it, give it a try.

Grimvalor

Grimvalor fills that itch while being a fun game. Enjoy the combat and exploration. You can get a trial demo before you buy.

The cities of Huntdown have a bleak future. Gang leaders rule the streets and their lackeys wreak havoc. As a bounty hunter, your job is to take them all down one by one and restore order to this warped world. You will need to platform your way to each level to take them out, and you will have to use every weapon in your possession.

One of Huntdown's biggest draws is the fact that levels are short, but challenging. This is a platform with a shiny veneer. The 16-bit graphics are retro fun, the soundtrack is awesome, and the game has attitude and style coming out the wazoo. Huntdown is ad-free and only an in-app purchase of $8.49 comes after you have completed the first two demo stages.

Huntdown Icon

The streets of Huntdown are covered in gang warfare. Put your skills to the test in this action-platformer.

ICEY is an action game where you play as a mysterious warrior that kicks serious ass. The game plays perfectly, with tight controls and new skills to be unlocked as you progress through the game.

If that was all ICEY was, it would still be on this list. The meta-narrative at play here explores the relationship between the player and the narrator. It is unique among games as a whole, but especially mobile games.

ICEY

There is an excellent side-scroller that holds some deeper truths. This is a meta-narrative.

Injustice 2 is the sequel to the award-winning game Injustice: Gods Among Us, which is also one of the best fighting games for Android. The sequel to the first game features more fantasy fight match-ups between your favorite heroes and villains from the DC Universe.

As you battle in 3 vs 3 fights with the ability to swap out fighters as needed, you will be able to build your ultimate team. The usual suspects are here, as well as a whole slew of new heroes and villains, which you can discover as you play.

Injustice 2

Injustice 2 is a brawler for DC fans that has lots of fighting action.

JYDGE is a top-down twin-stick shooter that is fun to play. You are the JYDGE, a cop who uses his Gavel to dole out justice. Each level has different challenges that are required to progress but never feel like a chore.

You can upgrade JYDGE and his gavel with a deep selection of accessories if you seize illegal cash along the way. JYDGE keeps the rogue-like element from Neon Chrome by encouraging you to replay levels with different upgrade combinations until you complete all the challenges.

With a game that has you replay levels over and over again, it's imperative for a game to find that mix of great gameplay with an interesting soundtrack that is not too annoying or repetitive.

JYDGE

JYDGE is a top-down shooter. This cyberpunk dystopia has justice in it.

It is an interesting game. It is an actionRPG with several Souls-like hallmarks. Combat is difficult and enemies can be killed when you stop at a checkpoint. You understand the idea.

It sets itself apart by its characters. You don't create a character and then build it. You can choose a character and change it between the ones you have unlocked. You don't spec points into your build because you get to try different play styles on the fly.

So yes, it is fine that Pascal's Wager tries to be Dark Souls. I recommend that you use a controller, because you will die more than you need to with the touchscreen controls. It is also a premium purchase with no nonsense.

Pascal's Wager

Fans of the Souls-like genre will find the game brutally challenging. You can play with a controller.

Team 17 is best known for their work in the Worms franchise. Penarium is a fast-paced strategy game that requires quick reflexes to survive.

The story tells the tale of a portly farm boy who always wants to go somewhere. One day, a circus show rolls into town and Willy decides to run away for a bit of fun and excitement. This is not an ordinary circus, it is the Penarium, a cruel circus. It is both dark and light-hearted.

Penarium

Survive the circus, or die trying. The crowd wants to see you fail.

It is not a stretch to say that roguelikes have been having a resurgence in popularity over the past few years. All that action is available for consoles, but there are some awesome alternatives to offer up. Redungeon is an endless dungeon-crawler featuring randomized dungeons, increasing levels of difficulty, and some adorable pixel art.

Staying alive through Redungeon's gauntlet of traps is no easy task. The main goal of the course is to collect as many treasures as you can in one piece. You can choose between on-screen button controls or touch-screen swipe controls to maneuver your characters, and I have found the controls to be responsive and intuitive. Each character has their own abilities and can be unlocked. An example of a cute scarecrow is Creep A. Crow, who is able to jump over single space gaps with ease.

Redungeon is free to play with. There is an optional one-time in-app purchase to remove ads and additional in-app purchases to buy more coins, but coins can also be acquired by just playing the game, so the monetization is refreshingly fair. There is no time like the present to try Redungeon if you missed it.

Redungeon Icon

Redungeon is an endless dungeon-crawling obstacle course with multiple characters to unlock, a great soundtrack, and challenging game play that will keep you coming back for more.

Each level of the adventure is a new challenge to master. There are many hours of platforming fun with gamepad support. You have to locate power-ups and levels in order to recover the gold that was stolen from your castle.

The game has been in the works for a long time. The game is a must-play on mobile with touch controls that have no right being as good as they are. Super Mario 3D Land for the Nintendo 3DS is far superior to Super Mario Run for the mobile device.

I love this game because it is a cute adventure for 3D fans. It is a lot of fun.

Suzy Cube

This is a cute adventure. You can find your castle's stolen gold and power-ups along the way.

The game is a real treat, and it is from the same team as the other games. The game pits the inventor of hi-tech inventions against the man who created the monsters.

The game uses twin-stick controls for shooting and moving. The campaign becomes more difficult as the number of enemies increases and you have to be fast with your finger. There are power-ups and perks that are easy to find.

It's always great to see a premium game with great support for the controllers and the touchscreen controls. There is a lot of content built into the base game, along with some DLC that offers new monsters, weapons, and more. Don't be worried, the game feels polished without needing to shell out more money, but once you've made it through everything, you might be glad there's more to explore.

Tesla vs Lovecraft

The twin-stick shooter,Tesla vs Lovecraft, is another fantastic game from 10tons.

Witcheye is a wonderfully retro game that looks and sounds like it was created in the 90s, but also makes excellent use of touch controls, and it is also a mobile platforming game. You play as a witch who transforms into a bouncing eyeball as she heads off on a quest to retrieve her stolen magical ingredients.

There are over 50 levels to enjoy and each has a very memorable soundtrack. There is a hard mode that completely changes the game to up the challenge. If you like speed running, there are even speed running tools.

Witcheye

Another excellent game has been published by Devolver. There is a real nostalgia trip to be had by playing Witcheye.

If you are willing to spend a couple of dollars upfront, there is no shortage of great games on the Play Store. Each game is worth your time and money, but a few stand out.

Death Road to Canada is one of my favorite mobile games. You can create your own characters with a ton of customization and randomization, and each of the games has a unique weapons and extra characters that you will run into on your journey through the zombie apocalypse up to Canada.

Penarium is a tough-as-nails game where you play as a hapless boy who is tricked into fighting for his life in an evil circus. There are a lot of challenging levels to play through and it plays well with the simple controls.

It's time to give Tesla and Lovecrafta a go. It is a top-down twin-stick shooter that features some of the craziest action you will ever see in a mobile game. It is a rogue-like shooter that will throw hundreds of enemies at you and fill the screen with them. You have a lot of weapons and power-ups to help keep them out.
