Porsche Taycan demolishes Kia's EV charging record

A car drove from Los Angeles to New York City in less than an hour.

The German carmaker broke the Guinness World Record for the shortest charging time to drive across the U.S. in a battery-powered car.

The EV6 set a record last year with a 7 hour, 10 minute, and 1 second charging time while making the 2,834 mile journey in its soon-to-be-released EV6. As recently as this week, the company boasted of its fast-charging achievement.

The Taycan is the first EV from Porsche, and it was used on the cross-country trek. The Level 3 charging can take the car from empty to 80 percent charge in 25 minutes. Slower Level 2 charging takes more than six hours to fully charge an EV. It is not a problem for the EV6 and the Taycan.

It shattered the record.
