Neil Young was fed up with Spotify’s ‘shitty’ sound quality anyway

Neil Young has a lot of issues with the streaming service. He felt better after he left and slammed the sound quality of the service.

Young wrote on his website that Amazon, Apple Music and Qobuz deliver up to 100 percent of the music quality today.

Young has been vexed by the audio quality on some streaming platforms. He took his music off of them in 2015. Young launched his own audio player and music download platform, but Pono shut down.

In February of 2021, the company said it would launch a CD-quality music streaming option. That did not happen. The company said earlier this month it was excited to deliver a Spotify HiFi experience to Premium users in the future, but didn't give a time frame.

Apple Music, Amazon Music and Tidal all started offering CD-quality music streaming as part of their standard plans last year. Deezer and Qobuz have hi-res streaming.

Young gave the platform an ultimatum after accusing it of allowing Joe Rogan to share vaccine misinformation. According to reports, the streaming service paid $100 million to get the exclusive rights to Rogan's show, and has taken down more than 20,000 episodes. The service regretted Young's decision and hoped he would return soon.

Young wrote that he supported free speech and companies had the right to choose what to profit from.
