Nic Cage's Crow Insults Him But He's Perfect for Vampire Movies

Nic Cage, in a black suit and gray fedora that shades his eyes, smiles at the crowd.

There is so much to love about Nic Cage. His incredible body of work has spanned four decades. His acting ranges from subtle, compelling performances to downright lunacy. His nerd-dom extends to naming his son Kal-El after Superman. There was a time when people thought he was a real vampire. His pet crow calls him names.

In a very fun interview with the Los Angeles Times, Cage casually mentioned the fact that his pet crow has started to insult him. From the piece.

The actor's pet crow is named Hoogan and lives in his Las Vegas home inside a dome. It is to me that he has taken to calling me names. When I leave the room, he will tell me that crows are very smart. I like their appearance. I enjoy the goth element. I am a goth.

I'm not entirely sure how much Cage knows about goth culture, but I know it's one of life's few, tender mercies that the actor will finally be able to play Dracula in the upcoming horror-comedy Renfield. This will be a chance for Cage to bring that intense, over-the-top, Face/Off-style energy that he's known for.

He brought the same energy to his first vampire movie, Vampire's Kiss, which was also a horror-comedy. In it, Cage plays a literary agent who believes he is bitten by a vampire and buys novelty fangs when he fails to develop. Just watch the trailer.

There was a time in 2012 when he was accused of being a vampire in real life when a 1870 photo surfaced which included a man who looked exactly like Cage.

No pun intended, but Cage is going to kill it in Renfield. No matter what his crow thinks.
