SpaceX is reportedly planning to launch a record 52 rockets in 2022 — and it's already on track to hit that goal

On average, the company would send one rocket into space every week.

The news was first reported by CNBC and The Verge.

The company had a record of 31 launches last year.

During a virtual meeting of NASA's Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel, the former executive director of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics said that there was an ambitious 52 launch manifest for SpaceX over the course of the year.

Magnus said that NASA and SpaceX will have to be careful about being victims of their success in the future.

Magnus said in the meeting that NASA and SpaceX would have to ensure the appropriate attention and priority were focused on NASA missions and the right resources were brought to bear to maintain that pace at a safe measure.

According to the reports, Magnus did not specify whether the launches would include prototype flights.

NASA and SpaceX didn't reply to Insider's request for comment.

Between January 6 and 19 it has had three Falcon 9 launches, and it will send the fourth one into space on Friday. On average, it is on track to launch one rocket every week.

Musk said in 2020 that his company was aiming to complete 48 launches. The record amount for the rocket manufacturer was 31 last year.

According to media reports, the lowest number of launches in the past five years was 13 in 2019.
