Several new features were included in the first developers version of Apple's mobile operating system. The ability to use Face ID without an Apple Watch is perhaps the biggest. You can now wear a mask for the first time and verify Apple Pay transactions.
With the release ofiOS 14.5 and watchOS 7.4 last year, Apple added the ability for users wearing a mask to unlocks their phone when wearing an Apple Watch, eliminating the need to enter a password. Other features that rely on Face ID, such as Apple Pay and in-app authentication, do not work, even though they allow users to unlock their device while wearing a mask.
Users will be able to make purchases and use Face ID within apps after the public release of the new version of the operating system. Apple warns that using Face ID with a mask is less secure and that the system remains the most accurate when used with full-face recognition.
According to Apple, Face ID can be enabled with an iPhone that can recognize the unique features around the eye area. Users of older models of the iPhone will not be able to use the feature in the first beta. Apple has added the ability to set Face ID while wearing glasses.
The public is likely to get a new version of iPadOS later this Spring, with new features such as an Apple Card, Universal Control, and more. Check out the new stuff in the first alpha.
