Royal Caribbean Officially Welcomes ‘Wonder of the Seas’ To Its Fleet

The new Wonder of the Seas was welcomed by Royal Caribbean International as it took delivery today of its fifth Oasis Class vessel. The largest cruise ship in the world is the 6,988-passenger cruise ship, which is 1,188 feet long and 236,857 gross tons.

A traditional flag-changing ceremony took place Thursday in Marseille to commemorate the transfer of the ship from its shipyard partner to Royal Caribbean.

VERTISING

Royal Caribbean Group Chairman Richard Fain, Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty, Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Chantiers de l'Atlantique General Manager Laurent Castaing were on hand to welcome Wonder of the Seas.

Wonder of the Seas will make its debut on March 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and then sail a series of seven-night Caribbean cruises before crossing the Atlantic to Barcelona in May.

Wonder of the Seas will make cruising bigger and bolder. Liberty said that adding this ship to the already best-in-class fleet elevated the company in continuing to lead the industry with new features and innovation.

The delivery of Wonder of the Seas is the culmination of 30 months of ingenuity and partnership across more than 2,000 committed crew members and workers who are among the best at what they do.

Wonder is the first to include eight distinct onboard neighborhoods that offer adventures for all ages. The new Suite Neighborhood gives Royal Suites Class guests access to an elevated Suite Sun Deck, complete with a plunge pool, sun loungers, bar and a private restaurant. The Ultimate Family Suite can accommodate up to ten guests.

The Wonder Playscape, an open-air, underwater-themed kids play area that comes complete with slides, climbing walls and an interactive, touch-activated mural, is one of the new onboard offerings. The Caribbean Pool Deck has a trio of high-speed waterslides and kids' aqua park.

The Vue Bar is a new food and drink venue that has a colorful mosaic canopy after sunset. The Mason Jar Southern Restaurant and Bar is located in a warm farmhouse-style setting and serves staple American southern fare and new takes on classics with live country music. Guests can sample water-watering menu items such as johnnycakes, southern fried chicken, crab beignets and shrimp and grits.

Guests will be happy to know that there are many favorites returning on board the Wonder, including The Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea, and the FlowRider surf simulator.
