The SEC has two projected No. 1 seeds in the NCAA women's basketball tournament.
The first reveal of the top 16 seeds from the NCAA women's selection committee was released on Thursday and was based on results through Wednesday. Subsequent reveals will be held on Feb. 10 and Feb. 28.
Thegeography curve is where top seeds are placed into the regionals closest to them. South Carolina is the overall No. 1 seed and will be in the Greensboro Region in North Carolina.
The NC State Wolfpack are the top seed in the Connecticut region and will be close to Greensboro, about an hour and a half away.
The top seed in the Spokane Region of Washington is projected to be Stanford. The top seed in the Kansas region is Tennessee.
Four teams from the SEC and the Big 12 are in the top 16, three from the Pac-12 and two from the Big Ten.
The entire tournament was held in the San Antonio/San Marcos/Austin area in Texas. There was no tournament in 2020. In the past, the University of Connecticut was in regionals in New York and Connecticut. The last time the Huskies traveled a long way to a regional was in Lincoln, Nebraska, in 2014).
The decision not to put the Huskies in the region was made to make sure the region was balanced and teams from the same conference were not in the same region.
