The updated software adds the Universal Control feature, which has been a long anticipated feature. Universal Control is an easy to use and convenient multi- device control option that we tested out.
Subscribe to the MacRumors YouTube channel for more videos. To use Universal Control, you need to install the iPadOS 15.4 and the macOS Monterey 12.3 on your iPad and Mac. When you update, the feature should work automatically, but we ran into an issue where we needed to restart the Mac to get it to work.
If you want to turn it off for some reason or change the function, you can find the settings for Universal Control on the Mac.
If you have a Mac and an iPad next to each other, or multiple Macs and iPads, you can use the keyboard and spoliation on one device. If you have a MacBook Pro and an iPad Pro on your desk, the MacBook Pro's trackpad can be used on the iPad just by touching it. If you have a keyboard attached, the same is true of the iPad. Universal Control can be used between multiple Macs and iPads.
You can drag files from the Mac to the iPad, but you need the right app open. If you drag a photo from Mac to iPad, it won't go on the Home screen. Trackpad gestures for Mac don't seem to work on the iPad.
It is an intuitive and simple-to-use feature that allows you to move from one display to the next with no lag or other obstructions. You can use Universal Control on any Mac or iPad that is signed into your iCloud account, and it is a great example of an Apple feature that works.
