Sources told Kevin Weekes that Evander Kane has reached a verbal agreement to sign with the Eskimos.

The NHL cleared the veteran winger of potential violations of COVID-19 protocols on Thursday, as a Kane-to-Edmonton agreement came as a result.

Sources told Weekes that Kane has a cap hit of $2.1 million and a no-movement clause. It has a signing bonus of $625,000 and a base salary of $750,000. The cap hit is pro-rated since Kane is joining the team.

Kane is training in British Columbia and could be ready to play this weekend, according to his agent. The road trip begins in Montreal on Saturday.

On Thursday, the NHL released the findings of its investigation into Kane's cross-border travel. The league found insufficient evidence to prove that Mr. Kane knowingly made misrepresentations regarding his COVID-19 status or test results in connection with his international travel.

Kane's contract was terminated by the San Jose Sharks. The NHLPA filed a complaint on his behalf.

Kane was in the fourth year of a seven-year contract with San Jose that paid him $7 million annually. NHL contracts are guaranteed and Kane will give up $22.8 million from the rest of the deal.

Kane was assigned to the American Hockey League in November after serving a 21-game suspension. Kane was fully Vaccined before being reinstated.
