After watching their team eliminate the Buffalo Bills from the playoffs, fans of the Kansas City Chiefs decided to give their hometown a boost.
The Oishei Children's Hospital in Buffalo began receiving donations from fans of the Chiefs on Tuesday. A post on the hospital's Facebook page said donations had topped $300,000 by Thursday.
The 13 seconds it took for the Chiefs offense to tie the game at the end of the fourth quarter is $13. Kansas City won in overtime.
The news of the donations was reported on Wednesday.
Bills fans donate to charities associated with other teams. A group on the Facebook page of the Chiefs Kingdom decided to give back by giving money to the Buffalo-based children's hospital.
The hospital became associated with Josh Allen after fans donated more than one million dollars in honor of Allen's grandmother. Allen's jersey number was the subject of a $17 donation from fans.
After Buffalo beat Baltimore to eliminate them from the playoffs, fans of the Bills gave money to the Ravens. According to a Fox News report, Bills fans donated more than $500,000 to the Lamar Jackson foundation.
The season ended on Sunday after the loss to the Chiefs. They finished the season with a winning record.
The chance to play in the Super Bowl for the third year in a row will be on the line when the Chiefs face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
CNBC's requests for comment from the Bills and the Chiefs were not immediately responded to. Oishei Children's Hospital's donation office did not reply to a message.
