Jim Irsay might be regretting that Carson Wentz trade

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay created a firestorm on Twitter.

In his bounce-back season in 2021, the Indianapolis Colts quarterback passed for 27 touchdown and over 3,500 yards. The Colts missed the playoffs after a late-season collapse that saw them lose their last two games to the Raiders and Jaguars. Colts owner Jim Irsay may have the only opinion that matters. On Tuesday, Irsay posted a message that seemed to call out the offense.

In the post, Irsay calls out the entire team honestly, but after those last two games, it's clear that Wentz could be the one on the hot seat. Irsay gave the Eagles a first-round pick in order to get Wentz. It was supposed to work out perfectly since Frank Reich was the offensive coordinator in Philadelphia. He couldn't get the Colts into the playoffs when they only needed to win one of their final two games to make the playoffs.

In Indy's Week 17 loss to Las Vegas, the quarterback completed less than half of his passes. In Week 18, the Colts played Jacksonville with everything on the line, and Wentz threw for 185 yards and a touchdown. The Colts lost to the Jags. Irsay may be right about questioning the team and his quarterback. He traded a first-round pick for this. There was a 9-8 record and no playoffs to show for it. He missed time from the team this season due to his unvaccinated status, and his performance on the field. He is unreliable in the professional sports world.

Irsay expects more from the Colts offense, which ended the season ninth in points per game. It sounds like Irsay wants 30-plus points even when things aren't firing on all cylinders. In 9 games, Kansas City scored 30 or more, and in 10 games, Tampa Bay did it. The Colts played 7 games. Those teams have elite quarterbacks. Indianapolis traded for a guy who wasn't elite before they got him. The draft capital is king in the NFL. You have already given up your first-round pick in 2022. It would seem foolish to cut bait so quickly.
