  • Users have reported visual errors in the January 2022 v37 Quest 2 system update.
  • These visual errors come in the form of chromatic aberration, or colored edge fringing, and appears to be a software processing error.
  • Oculus support has acknowledged the issue.

You might notice that things look a bit funny if you have received the January 2022, v37 update for your Oculus Quest 2. The v37 update looks to be malfunctioning, as reported by some users on Reddit.

The users are complaining about the appearance of chromatic aberration on everything they see in virtual reality. It's a result of how the lens works and is usually found in photos. It is a fringe around the edges of objects.

Bradley is the subject of a sad story via the social media site.

It appears that something was turned off in the latest update, but it's not clear if that's related to the color fringing. The difference can be seen in the image above.

The team is looking into the reports and will update the community when more is available.

The v37 update began to be rolled out on January 19th. It is not known how many users have received the update or how many are affected by the bug. The update does not seem to fix the issue after a factory reset.

There is no way to turn off automatic updates on the operating system. If you want to avoid headaches caused by the update, disabling wi-fi is the best way to go.
