'Mortal Kombat' film sequel coming with 'Moon Knight' writer onboard
New Line

The sequel to the film is being created by Warner Bros. and New Line and will be written by Jeremy Slater. The original R-rated film did well at the box office and was the most successful film to date when it was released last April.

On top of that, he is working on an adaptation of Stephen King's The Tommyknockers for Universal and an upcoming movie directed by Travis Knight. The Umbrella Academy was developed by him.

The original film was gory and violent, but the writer tried to inject some humor. It is not known if Simon McQuoid will be involved again, but last year he said a sequel could happen if the fans wanted another one.

The original did seem designed to set up another sequel, though, with one critic describing it as "the homework you have to do before the fun."
