Sculptor Dan Medina with statue
Medina hopes a permanent statue will be created in memory of the five-time NBA champion

On the second anniversary of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Dan Medina took a statue of the Lakers legend to the site.

The temporary statue is temporary and Medina hopes to have a permanent version in Los Angeles.

The statue was taken to the California site where nine people died.

Medina said no one asked him to do it.

On the second anniversary of the accident, I decided to bring it up from sunrise to sunset and create a healing process for fans.

Today was special because I witnessed a lot of that. People would come up and they would leave with some sort of satisfaction.

The names of the crash victims are engraved on the base of the statue, as well as a famous quote by Bryant, "Heroes come and go, but legends are forever."
