Neil Young wrote an open letter demanding that his music be removed from the platform because he didn't want to share it with Joe Rogan. According to The Wall Street Journal, Young's music is no longer available on the service.
He said in the letter that he wanted his music off of the platform. Not both.
Young wrote a letter to his manager and his record label, saying that he was doing this because of the misinformation that is being spread about vaccines.
We want all the world's music and audio content to be available to users of the service. A spokesman for the company said that they regret Neil's decision to remove his music from the service, but hope to welcome him.
The companies didn't reply to a request for comment. In a post on his website, Young thanked his label for its support and said that it has become the home of life threatening misinformation.
Rogan's hugely popular show was made exclusive to the platform in 2020. He has come under scrutiny for statements he made about the vaccine, such as suggesting that healthy young people don't need it. A coalition of scientists and medical professionals recently published an open letter of their own that called on Spotify to take action against mass-misinformation events.
