I stopped in Georgia along the way on my road trip.
I spent two nights and a day in the city.
The food culture, architecture, and parks were some of the things I loved. I am excited to go back.
I left my home in New York City to go on a road trip through Georgia.
I started my trip in Charleston, South Carolina. After three nights in Charleston, I headed down the coast to Savannah and then flew home from Atlanta.
I valued the walkability of the city as a New Yorker.
Walking is my first choice for getting from one place to another. I was not sure what to expect when I first arrived in the city, but once I began to explore, I was thrilled.
It took me 45 minutes to walk from my hotel in the historic district to Victory Drive in the Starland neighborhood. It was great to be able to see different neighborhoods without having to drive.
The architecture of the city is amazing.
I found myself constantly admiring the buildings around me while on my walks downtown.
There are many architectural vibes in the city of Savannah. I thought every street had a different view of buildings for me to consume.
I loved seeing the different styles of homes, temples and churches, and coffee shops and restaurants. I would have liked to have more time to explore it.
There was Spanish moss all over the place.
The Spanish moss that dripped off of trees and telephone wires added personality to every photo I took.
I can't wait to go back to my favorite coffee shop in the city.
I can get a coffee from the breakfast cart on my corner in New York City. It is hard to find a cup of coffee for less than $3.50 when the clock strikes 11 a.m.
I usually pay at least $5 for an Americano, cappuccino, or large iced coffee. When I walked into The Coffee Fox on my first day in the area, I thought there was a mistake because I looked at my receipt while waiting for my coffee.
The barista told me that my Americano only cost $2.50. It was worth it to go a few blocks out of my way for an inexpensive, super delicious Coffee Fox fix for the rest of my trip, because I quickly learned that this wasn't a hard and fast rule for Savannah coffee.
There was a big antique scene in the city. I would love to dedicate an entire day to it next time.
I like antique stores. I got the feeling that this was a big part of the retail business in the city when I passed three within two blocks.
I can't wait to visit all the quirky stores I can find on my next visit because there were way more shops than I was able to check out.
Spending an afternoon in a park is lovely.
On my day one adventure, I walked through the park. There was a farmers market on Saturday and I love it.
Between the playground, volleyball nets, tennis courts, ample green space, mix of shady spots and sunny spots, and a large chic cafe right in the center, I would love to schedule myself an entire afternoon to be free in the park.
Open-container laws allow visitors and locals to drink in the streets of the historic downtown area.
The bustling public drinking scene that now exists in SAVANNAH came about from a long history of prohibition and underground alcohol sales.
I saw a lot of people walking around with drinks in cups. In the summer of 2020 I got a taste of to-go drinks in NYC when they were temporarily allowed to aid struggling restaurants, after I popped into a restaurant and asked a bartender.
Since I was in the city for work, I wasn't able to fully take advantage of the rule. I will be cheering in the streets next time.
It was easy to change my scenery and get a feel for different areas outside of the city center.
I was impressed with how easy it was to get to other parts of the city that were farther away from downtown.
I got in my rental car and drove 20 minutes to the Isle of Hope because I had more time to explore. It took me 20 minutes to get from my apartment in downtown Manhattan to Midtown on the subway, so it was an easy commute.
The pit stop at the Pin Point Heritage Museum, which was closed by the time I arrived, was one of the highlights of my excursion.
The Isle of Hope was beautiful, and I look forward to driving around more of the area next time.
I want to try many more restaurants.
I was sure to try The Grey and The Olde Pink House, but I kept passing more and more on the streets.
There were places that looked or smelled amazing everywhere I went. I'm building up my restaurant wish list.
I can't wait to get back to the city and see all the sights.
