The Big Ten is considering eliminating conference alignments for football.

Gary Barta said that one proposal would see the Big Ten reduce its in-conference games from nine to eight so that schools could schedule non- conference games. The Alliance was formed by the Big Ten, ACC, and Pac-12 to fight the SEC's addition of Texas and Oklahoma.

According to Scott Dochterman of The Athletic, Barta said that they had had several conversations.

We are wondering if we will know the format before making the decision. We are waiting to see where that lands. We have had conversations about the schedule after 2022.
