The lawsuit against Prince Andrew was brought by a woman named Virgina Giuffre, who was one of Jeffrey Epstein's most outspoken accusers.
In a court filing Wednesday, Andrew's legal team denied that the prince had sex with Giuffre on three occasions while she was 17 years old.
The move appears to mark a new legal strategy for Andrew and his lawyers, who previously argued to have the lawsuit tossed out, and even argued that the prince was properly served the suit last year.
A jury trial would raise the possibility that Andrew would testify in court, a move that would be surprising for a member of the British royal family who has already faced major blowback over Giuffre's allegations.
Giuffre sued Andrew for damages. The case against Andrew could move forward after the judge rejected the prince's argument that a $500,000 settlement between Giuffre and Epstein did not shield him from trial. Queen Elizabeth stripped Andrew of his military affiliations and royal patronages the next day. Andrew has not carried out any official duties on behalf of his mother since he stepped back from his role as a senior member of the royal family.
