There are multiple options for the next fight of the pound-for-pound No. 1 boxer.
Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing proposed a two-fight contract for Saul "Canelo" Alvarez to face Dmitry Bivol on May 7 and then complete a trilogy against Gennady Golovkin. The undisputed super middleweight championship would be on the line.
On May 7th, Al Haymon's PBC will defend his titles against Jermall Charlo.
In November, he unified the 168-pound titles with an 11th-round knockout of Caleb Plant. He is free to fight for any promotion he wants after signing a one-fight deal with PBC.
If he sticks with PBC for his next fight, it will lead him to Charlo. The titleholder would be eight pounds heavier than the opponent. He defeated Juan Macias Montiel by a unanimous decision in June, his second fight in two years. Jermell is the brother of the identical twin brother of the unified light middleweight champ.
He has held a title in the weight class once before, defeatingSergey Kovalev in 2019. The Bivol had two decision wins last year and would be a tall task for him.
A third meeting against Golovkin is the most intriguing option for Alvarez. The two fought to a draw and then a majority-decision win a year later. Both fights were commercially successful and drew a lot of public interest.
He wants to become a five-division champion and challenge Makabu for the cruiserweight title.
