McDonald's joked that it would accept dogecoin at its restaurants only if Tesla accepted its 'grimacecoin'

McDonald's joked it would only accept dogecoin for payment if it was accepted byTesla.

The fast-food chain was responding to Musk, who said he would eat a Happy Meal on TV if McDonald's accepted dogecoin as a form of payment.

McDonald's has a rotund purple character called Grimace.

The dogecoin started as a joke and is supported by Musk. Dogecoin was accepted byTesla for some of its merchandise.

At one point, dogecoin was up 8%, to about $0.145, because of Musk's McDonald's comment. It is still trading around this level.

Hours after McDonald's made a joke about a coin, several accounts popped up on the social networking site. McDonald's does not currently have a grimace coin.

McDonald's didn't reply to Insider's request for comment.
