Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Tuesday she plans to run for reelection, but she didn't say if she would seek another term as speaker.
Pelosi said in a video that she intends to run for reelection because she wants to improve people's lives.
She agreed to give up the gavel after she was re-elected as speaker in a deal with Democrats.
18. That's how many terms Pelosi has been in Congress. She became the first and only woman to hold the post of speaker of the House in 2007, having been first elected in 1987.
Pelosi is from the 12th Congressional District of California. When Pelosi was named one of 50 Women Over 50 by Forbes in June of 2021, she mentioned her desire to run for reelection. Last year, Forbes named Pelosi as the 15th most powerful person in the world. The term limit proposal, which would have allowed three terms by a simple majority vote of the caucus and a fourth with two-thirds support, was never voted on by the Democrats.
