Spotify removes Neil Young music in feud over Joe Rogan’s false Covid claims

Neil Young's music is being removed from the music streaming platform after the company refused to take down the Joe Rogan show because it spread vaccine misinformation.

One of the most consumed media products on the planet is Rogan. His show, the Joe Rogan Experience, is the most popular. Rogan signed a $100 million deal with streaming giant in 2020.

With an estimated 11 million listens per episode, The Joe Rogan Experience is the world's most listened to show. The company does not have a policy on misinformation on its platform.

They can have Rogan or Young if you let them know that I want all my music off their platform. Not both.

The platform was taking down Young's music.

We want all the world's music and audio content to be available to users of the service. There is a great responsibility in balancing safety and freedom for creators. Since the start of the Pandemic, we have removed over 20,000 episodes of the Covid episodes from the podcasts. We regret Neil's decision to remove his music from Spotify, but hope to welcome him back soon.

Rogan, who has legions of followers, has spread false and misleading claims.

A few weeks ago, 270 doctors, scientists, healthcare professionals and professors wrote an open letter to Spotify, expressing concern about medical misinformation on Rogan's show.

The letter highlighted a highly controversial episode from last December that features Robert Malone, a virologist who was involved in the mRNA vaccine technology that led to some of the leading Covid-19 vaccines but has since been criticized for spreading vaccine misinformation.

This is not only a scientific or medical concern, but it is also a sociological issue of devastating proportions and it is the responsibility of the platform to allow this activity to thrive.
