An Iowa man was arrested on Capitol riot charges after a family member contacted the FBI

An Iowa man with ties to the QAnon conspiracy movement was arrested earlier this month in connection to the January 6 Capitol attack after one of his family members contacted the FBI.

There are four charges stemming from his role in the insurrection, including entering a restricted building, parading in a Capitol building, and disorderly conduct. According to the Des Moines Register, the man had his first court appearance last week after being arrested on January 11. He is due back in court on Thursday.

Two days after the siege, one of the family members contacted the FBI to alert them to the attack. The family member of the unnamed person shared videos of himself on Capitol grounds and made threats against Vice President Mike Pence.

Court records show that law enforcement officers interviewed the family member in September of 2021. During and after the attack, the family members shared recordings and text messages with each other.

The first person to give information was the one who said that he saw a phone notification from the far right and that he was waiting for it.

In a voluntary interview with investigators in September, he said he looked through an open Capitol door but did not go inside on January 6. According to charging documents, the FBI used cell tower data to show that Rader was inside the building during the riot, and investigators later identified him on video entering the building through a broken door.

Prosecutors say that he was inside the Capitol for three minutes.

An attorney for the man did not respond to the request for comment.

More than 760 people have been arrested in connection with the deadly Capitol attack and more than 175 have pleaded guilty thus far.
