According to a source, the Minnesota Vikings are going to hire the Cleveland Browns vice president of football operations as their new general manager.
The Vikings fired Rick Spielman at the end of the 2021 season after a 16-year stint as the general manager that produced a 132-123-2 record.
Adofo- Mensah is the 10th person in franchise history to hold a general manager title and/or carry out the duties of the team. He comes to Minnesota from Cleveland, where he worked under Andrew Berry.
Berry hired Adofo- Mensah from San Francisco in 2020 after he spent seven seasons as the 49ers manager. The 40-year-old holds undergraduate and master's degrees in economics from the two universities, and had several Wall Street ventures as a portfolio manager and commodities trader before he entered the NFL.
The first order of business will be to find a new head coach for the Vikings. At the same time the Vikings conducted interviews for their next general manager, they also spoke with eight candidates for their opening as head coach.
The last head coach interview from the initial round for Minnesota was that of DeMeco Ryans, who was a quality control and inside linebackers coach for the 49ers during the final three seasons.
The Chicago Bears finalized a deal to hire Poles as their next general manager on Tuesday, the same day that Adofo- Mensah had his second interview, according to sources. Poles was scheduled for an in-person interview at the TCO Performance Center on Wednesday as the other finalist for the Vikings general manager opening.
In Cleveland, Adofo- Mensah assisted Berry with the day-to-day operations of the front office. He takes over a structure in Minnesota that is without an assistant general manager but has high-ranking personnel executives, including Brzezinski, who manages the team's salary cap. The three were on the committee that interviewed the general manager candidates.
Adofo- Mensah was interviewed for the general manager position at Carolina. He also interviewed with the Bears for their GM position.
A third-round pick will be given to the team that loses a minority executive or coach to a general manager or head coach position.
The rule requires minority GM or head coach candidates to have been with their club for at least two full seasons. Adofo- Mensah will be with Cleveland for two years in 2020.
