The book of a character?

At the end of last week's episode of The Book of Boba Fett, viewers heard a musical cue indicating that Boba Fett was going to reach out to his new friend, The Mandalorian, as he tries to retain his power on Tatooine.

Today's episode of The Book of Boba Fett went far above and beyond that, and what we got was just an entire episode of The Mandalorian.

There are more to come.

This is one of the longest episodes to date, and for better or worse, serves to feel like a sharp contrast to the somewhat lackluster Boba Fett series it is meant to bolster here. This is made clear right away as Mando manhandles a bounty target and his cronies with the Darksaber, a sequence far more brutal than anything we have seen from Fett thus far.

The Night of a Thousand Tears, the destruction of Mandalore at the hands of the Imperials is shown in the episode. Mando was warned about Bo Katan and how her rule led to the downfall of Mandalore, but he was exiled by the only two remaining Mandalorians because he admitted to removing his helmet.

There is a large portion of the episode devoted to The Mandalorian heading back to Tatooine, which is a rather stress-inducing part of the episode. He gets a call from his mechanic friend who has a replacement ship for him in the form of an old Naboo starfighter that the two of them rebuild into the same ship as in The Fast and the Furious. No, but serious.

There are a lot of easter eggs here. The Starfighter, the canyon sequence, and the proclaimer. For video game fans, we have a little friend in there, Cal. The events of that game were well before the Mandalorian timeline, so is it the same as the one in the movie? Maybe we will find out in the next game.

The Mandalorian agrees to help Boba, but first he wants to give Grogu a present that was made from his old spear. It seems like some sort of chain. I hope it is a small helmet. It is possible that the next episode will be another Mandalorian episode, one that will have him come back to help Fett in the finale. I'm not sure.

The show gave a clear indication that Grogu and Mando will be back together again. Why? His new ship has a bubbled-off ex-droid slot. I don't know what that is.

This was a very good episode of The Book of Boba Fett, but it was not an episode of The Book of Boba Fett at all. I would not be complaining about another full Mando-Grogu reunion episode if that is the plan.
