Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George may have to have surgery as he tries to recover from an elbow injury.

Brian Windhorst reported the update on The Hoop Collective.

It sounds like surgery is a real option for Paul George, and if he has that, he will be done for the year.

The torn ulnar in his right elbow has limited him for much of the season. He had an elbow injury and missed five games. He was out for two games with the injury.

While the team's initial announcement on Christmas Day stated George would be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks, the Clippers are operating.

George would rest for several more weeks before being reexamined, according to an update on January 18.

The Clippers have been hurt by the absence of Leonard, who is working his way back from a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Reggie Jackson and Terance Mann have to pick up the slack in Los Angeles.

George is one of the top two-way players in the NBA. Through 26 appearances, he has averaged 24.7 points, 7.1 rebound and 5.5 assists.

The wing was named third-team All-NBA last season after he averaged 23.3 points, 6.6 rebound and 5.2 assists. He played elite on-ball defense on the perimeter while shooting 41.1 percent from three-point range.

George came through with 26.9 points per game, despite being criticized for his playoff performances.

Los Angeles could once again be a contender in the West if he can return to full strength, but his status for the rest of the campaign remains uncertain.
