Trump Family Aghast That Grifters Made a “TrumpCoin” Cryptocurrency

The Trumps are angry that people are using their name to make money.

Eric Trump said on Monday morning that his family had just become aware of a Trumpcryptocurrencies that was not affiliated with his father.

Legal action will be taken, according to the ex-president's largest son.

Fraud Alert: It has come to our attention that someone is promoting a crypto currency called "TrumpCoin" (Symbol  "TRUMP.") This has NOTHING to do with our family, we do not authorize the use and we are in no way affiliated with this group. Legal action will be taken.

According to the FAQ of the Trump coin, it has existed since February 2016 if you want to feel old.

The self-proclaimed non-profit volunteers behind the coin will use it to raise money and support the troops.

Gift for Grifts

The anonymous group behind TrumpCoin has never claimed to be affiliated with the Trump family or brand, though people in the community are excited by the ex-president's son.

Stuart Thompson, a New York Times disinformation reporter, said that the coin has been subject to its own scam: people selling physical Trump coins and calling them cryptocurrencies. Thompson noted that these fake ads have annoyed those who support Trump, and that they have had to fight off requests to trade the physical coin for the virtual one.

The whole story is similar to Trump's presidency, in that a shady group is claiming to promote patriotism and taking people's money to do so.

It would be easier to laugh at and write off this poorly-performing currency if it didn't represent the bottom tier of grievance politics. At least buying a piece of technology doesn't count as voting.

Steve Bannon is a key player in the new coin. What could go wrong? The Huffington Post has a story about it.
