Freedom Flex Adds New Top-Spend Category for Q4
The Chase Freedom Flex card is an impressive product. It earns 3X on dining and drugstore purchases.
During the holiday season, there will be another way for people to accumulate points. 5% back on up to $1,500 purchases will be earned by Chase with the introduction of a top-spend category. You can earn up to 9X on some categories. Let's see how it works.
The earning on next statement period section now shows 6,000 points as you can see in the image below. The recent transactions section of your Chase Freedom Flex card doesn't show any information about it, so just check the top of your Ultimate rewards account.
Some of the offers may have changed.
The Offer
If you spend the most in the eligible rewards category through the end of the year, you'll earn 5% total cash back and 4% in addition to your unlimited 1% cash back. This offer is added to your account when you add your Q4 bonus categories.
The categories that are eligible for rewards include:
- travel (including transit)
- dining
- home improvement stores
- select streaming services
- select live entertainment
- gas stations
- drugstores
- fitness clubs
- grocery stores (not including Target and Walmart purchases).
The total spend from purchases made in your top spend category will be calculated at the end of the offer period. After the end of the offer period, you can post your bonus cash back to your account.
Stack with Other Categories
The 5% Q4 rotating bonus category is part of the 3% category, which makes this top-spend category better.
Purchases made in your top spend category will earn 9% cash back. Since Chase Freedom Flex already earns 3% cash back on dining and drugstore purchases, you can now earn a total of 7% cash back with the top spend category bonus.
Conclusion
The offer is available to all Freedom Flex cardholders. If you want to take advantage of this points earning opportunity, you can always product change to the Freedom Flex, even if the old Freedom card is not eligible.
It's great timing for holiday shopping, and even better for people who have more than one Freedom Flex card.
