Irishman faces 20 years in jail after ‘exposing buttocks’ to airline staff on New York-bound Delta flight

A passenger on a Delta flight was unruly.

An Irishman who refused to wear a facemask during a flight to New York and exposed his buttocks to a flight attendant faces up to 20 years in prison in the US.

McInerney is accused of interfering with a flight crew and intimidating a member of a flight crew during a Delta Air Lines flight from Dublin to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

According to the criminal complaint, McInerney mooned passengers and flight staff after refusing several requests from the flight crew to mask up.

The complaint was filed by FBI special agent Mark Palagiano.

According to the complaint, McInerney kicked the back of the seat in front of him and threw an empty can at a passenger, hitting him on the head.

The captain made his way to the economy class cabin and spoke to McInerney in an attempt to calm the Irishman down.

According to Palagiano, McInerney put his cap on the captain's head twice and also put his fist on the captain's face.

He was taken into custody upon his arrival in New York.

McInerney was going to work at a soccer academy in Florida. He is on a $20,000 bail as he awaits trial.

Interfering with flight crew is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Delta said in a statement that it has zero tolerance for unruly behavior at airports and aboard its aircraft, as it is important that the safety of its people and customers is paramount.
