In the last year Lucasfilm has announced its intent to bring Star Wars to a broader range of gaming developers, ahead of a decade-long exclusive deal with Electronic Arts. Lucasfilm has altered the deal, but that doesn't mean it isn't working with the developer on more Star Wars adventures.
Lucasfilm andEA have announced that they are working on three more Star Wars games with Respawn Entertainment, a studio best known for the Titanfall and Apex Legends shooter franchise.
One of the games is a long-assumed sequel to Respawn's own Star Wars title, Jedi: Fallen Order, which follows a young former padawan named Cal Kestis. A new Star Wars first person shooter will be developed by Respawn and they will also work with Bit Reactor to create a strategy title set in the far away far away universe.
At least one more in-development Star Wars title is in the works at Electronic Arts, as well as a remake of the beloved Knights of the Old Republic.
Lucasfilm Games announced its intent to bring a wider range of developers to Star Wars gaming as it looked beyond the exclusive deal with Electronic Arts. The results have brought an announced action game from The Division, the long-awaited return of the Lego Star Wars series, and the controversial reveal that troubled studio Quantic Dreamreeling from a series of legal battles accusing them. Even if it doesn't solely hold the keys to the X-Wing, there was still more that it could do with Star Wars.
Lucasfilm should be encouraged by the fact that we are getting more games in the Fallen Order world and new stories in other genres. We will have to wait a while to see the fruits of this labor. We will bring you more on the plans for Star Wars as we learn them.
