In England, around 1 in 23 people were affected by the omicron variant in January.

There are high levels of infections of the omicron coronaviruses in England. According to the latest results from the Real-time Assessment of Community Transmission study, cases are rising in school-aged children and older individuals.

The researchers looked at 100,607 test results from people in England. The positivity rate increased by three-fold compared to December.
